WINTERNACHTEN? international literature festival

Writers Unlimited Festival is THE high quality literary event in the Netherlands. It generates a lot of publicity and discussion in the Dutch media and among our audience of fervent readers. Its aim is to provide an annual platform for authors ? fiction and non-fiction ? in an international setting, focusing on urgent issues both literary and global.

Guests in earlier editions of the festival have included Colson Whitehead, Rodrigo Mikhail Shishkin, Antjie Krog, Hassan Blasim, Nuruddin Farah, Mircea Cărtărescu, Rodrigo Hasbún, Pankaj Mishra, John Gray, Alaa Al-Aswany, Maaza Mengiste, Helon Habila, Amos Oz, Jung Chang, Hannan al-Shaikh, Karen Armstrong and Amin Maalouf. The 23e edition will also welcome a broad group of inspiring international writers and intellectuals such as Leïla Slimani, Mohsin Hamid, Ian Buruma and Nino Haratischwili.

The theme of the festival is "We The People", on the longing for the sovereignty of the people's rule and social movements and utopian thoughts based upon that desire. It will examine the revolutionary literature that has been the carrier and/or inspiration source of this collective desire and examine the reflection of the literature on the impact of those collective desires on individuals their histories and stories.
